A Web of Metaverses or a Metaverse for the Web?

While Second Life is (inevitably) suffering of scalability problems, it becomes clear that a single metaverse environment is not the way to go. We rather need a "Web of Metaverses", all interconnected and where, possibly, there exists a notion of "Avatar continuity".
